Feb 3 Meeting Minutes

  • Ema Rayne, Dealership Service Manager and HOG Chapter Liaison, has been appointed by Steel Horse as Acting Director of our HOG Chapter since Mike Currier is no longer a member. Ema is excited about serving on the leadership team that will guide us through a successful activities-filled year.
  • Dani was introduced as the new Marketing Director for Steel Horse and Richmond Harley.  She announced some upcoming dealership events that will get posted on HOGSCAN.  February 10th Valentines Celebration - offering 10% off on parts and merchandise; February 13th Mardi Gras Celebration; February 24th Chili Cook-off with prizes awarded.
  • Everyone was reminded to continue to use HOGSCAN to look up and RSVP to events and activities that are of interest to you.  HOGSCAN will be our only method for tracking membership participation throughout the year through a point system that will be used to make Christmas awards.
  • Remember to email or text your mileage each month to Ema at [email protected] or 804-405-9986.
  • The Wild and Wonderful regional HOG rally in Charleston, WV is being held August 21-24, 2024 and is the closest one to us this year.  More info can be found on the event Facebook page at WV Regional HOG Rally 2024.  Let Dave Bradley know if you are interested in attending so Chapter activities can be planned accordingly.
  • Treasurer, John Forbes provided an update on the financial status of the chapter.  Currently we have about $7200 in the bank which represents a surplus of $1500 over budgeted expenses that we can use for new activities.  Ideas for activities are welcomed.
  • Keith Smith, Head Road Captain, reminded everyone to share their ideas about rides and events that you would like to participate in throughout the coming year.  He has started a list and is just waiting on warmer weather to announce ride dates.  He indicated there definitely will be a ride to the Annual Nansemond Indian PowWow again this year (date undetermined as of yet). His phone and email address are 804-895-5031 and [email protected]
  • There are still a couple months open for someone to volunteer to bring in a “Christmas Basket “ for the monthly giveaway: July and September.  Up to $50 for the cost to prepare a basket is reimbursable if necessary.  Email [email protected] if you are interested in selecting a month.  This will earn you 20 HOGSCAN Points.
  • Reminder of the upcoming Valentine’s Day dinner, scheduled for Feb 16th, 6pm to be held at Dante’s of Ironbridge Road, 10348 Ironbridge Road, Chester, VA.  Cost is $20 per person (payable to the restaurant the night of the event) and includes buffet dinner of pizza, pasta, salad and a drink.  Alcohol is available at an extra cost.   There will be games and prizes!!  If you didn’t sign-up, come anyway and Dante’s will throw another pizza in the oven for you.
  • Tim Hicks announced that the date and location for this year’s Ornament Exchange will be Saturday, December 14th from 6-9pm at Candela’s Pizzeria located at 14235 Midlothian Turnpike.  This is a very fun event so put it on your calendar!
  • Les Allan, Safety Officer, gave some useful tips for preventing bike drops as well as how to pick them up.
  • Chapter membership is officially at 54 members, including two new members: Christopher Floor and Sharida Dobson. Sharida is actually a new rider as well!! Bob Chase, Membership Officer, indicated another 3-4 applications need to be verified, but we are on a positive trajectory.
  • John shared that it’s really important to make sure you profile in HOGSCAN reflects your current email and phone.  HOGSCAN is our primary method for communicating membership activities, events and other important info.  If you email is not correct, you will not get these communications.
  • Also, we are still in need of volunteers to fill several discretionary officer positions, including photographer – to review photos and ensure appropriateness for posting; and activities officer - to help guide planning for the Christmas party (and others to serve on a planning committee).  Jose Portilla-Cruz is leading the effort to plan our summer picnic – but he could use some volunteer assistants as well.  For anyone interested in volunteer – simply email [email protected].
